In the past year, I’ve picked up and sharpened a couple of skills. Baking is one of them. I’ve always found it to be therapeutic and rewarding. After all, it is another form of art. To be able to create anything out of something is no less than art. And what is life if not art?
If you're interested, here’s a quick and easy rundown of one of my favorite recipes;
Step 1: Add the dry ingredients in bowl 1
- This is your skills, talents and capabilities. They don’t have to be best quality ingredients as long as they are put in the bowl.
Step 2: Add the wet ingredients in bowl 2
- Here is where you put in your time, energy and effort in equal quantities. Sometimes you might need to heat them up before you add them.
Step 3: Mix the dry and wet ingredients
- Now you have to carefully stir the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients together. Make sure not to over mix them as it might ruin or dry out the final product.
Step 4: Put in the mix-ins
- Just before you put the tray in the oven, gently fold in whatever it is that makes you unique as an individual. It is important to put this towards the end so that they don’t get crushed by other people or overly compensated in the batter.
Step 5: Baking
- Always ensure that the right temperament and timing is set and more importantly maintained throughout. You can also keep checking on it once in a while and tweak if absolutely necessary.
Step 6: Cooling
- Once your product is done baking, there is nothing that you can possibly do to make it better or worse. This is where you need to let go. Also, patience is key if you don’t want your hard work to crumble and fall apart.
After everything has settled, when you take the first bite, you’ll feel mostly confused. This is you being desperate about wanting it to turn out good. Why wouldn’t you be, you’ve really tried to make it work. Nonetheless, because of various reasons, you might feel like maybe it’s a little under-cooked or a little bitter. But, you are left with a lot positive feelings too like feeling proud, accomplished and sometimes relief that it’s finally done. Overall though, it’s going to feel anticlimactic.
So, you should probably try out the recipe and let me know how it turns out. And also, final step, don’t forget to share your baked good with your loved ones. It makes everything feel so worth it. They might even ask you for tips.
